Brian Derek

Brian studied Arranging,Composition,Orchestration and Performance at Berklee College of Music. He has been a professional Bassist/Composer for many years and has worked with Mike Stern, Peter Erskine, Pat Metheny, Ali Ryerson, Joe Beck, Jay McShann,Stephen Stills,5th Dimension,Neil Sedaka etc and has performed on various records and CD`s as well as gigs on cruise ships, club dates, off-Broadway shows, concerts etc.

Brian has 5 CD`s released independently, the latest AbsoluteMusic is available on-line at cdbaby.com His music features Jazz/Worldfusion/Latin rhythms and beautiful melodies with a virtuoso approach to the Fretless bass. Music for the mind, body and soul that has it`s roots in Bebop, Brazilian jazz, 20th century,60`s R+B, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Jaco, Josef Zawinul, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock etc.
One of the highlites on Absolutemusic is an arrangement of the Thelonious Monk classic Ruby My Dear for solo bass and a re-written standard All The Things You Aren`t But Could Be. The rest of the music is totally original.
Brian is currently performing and teaching Jazz Harmony/Theory and Fretless bass in north-east Indiana and the greater Chicago area.
