It's that time of year again ... time to enjoy yet another of the great bluesman/guitarist Buddy Guy's fine blues concerts at Toronto's Massey Hall.

On 2nd lead guitar is Ric Hall, maybe better known as 'RicJaz Guitar' to some ... a favorite of this writer and others over the years ... having seen him perform onstage with Buddy Guy on several occasions indoors and outdoors throughout the years. Whatever the occasion, he always gives 110 per cent in his blues renditions whenever called upon by Buddy to solo or accompany him on high-intensity rhythm blues guitar.

I've been listening to Sir Paul McCartney's newest CD Kisses on the Bottom for a number of hours on repeat. I have to say this at the outset ... It truly is an outstanding piece of music.

The songs are well chosen, heartfelt and beautiful to listen to. They conjure romantic yearnings easily and effortlessly as McCartney delivers up his captivating vocals ... along with Eric Clapton's jazzy guitar riffs, Diana Krall's beautiful piano playing and Stevie Wonder's enchanting harmonica work.

The Beaches International Jazz Fest's 23rd Anniversary began its blockbuster live shows this year, with three stellar days and nights of entertainment outdoors at Toronto's Woodbine Park. This huge, manmade park on the edge of the Beach and Queen St. E. in Toronto, is a musical highlight for all die-hard jazz, blues, soul and R&B fans who converged here for the inaugural concerts that launched the 23rd Annual Beaches Jazz Fest. It was founded by Lido Chilelli, with Artistic Director Bill King, one of Canada’s most respected blues and jazz piano players.

Woodbine Park is also the site for the Waterfront Blues Fest every June, put on by blues promoter extraordinaire Rico Ferrara, with assistance from Beaches Jazz Fest co-founder Chilelli. Ferrara was the charismatic host for all three days and nights of blues, jazz and R&B at the Beaches 23rd Jazz Fest outdoor kickoff at Woodbine Park, Friday July 15th, to Sunday July 17th, 2011.
