The table of contents is concise, helpful, and arranged in such a manner that the reader can select what is to be studied. Following the preface and credits, is the first section concerned with diatonic scales. Other scales covered in detail include pentatonic, symmetrical, exotic, composer, and jazz. Polytonality, using scales with chords, alternating scales, practical use of scales, and scale chords are covered and discussed, and illustrated.

The illustrations and use of scales defined visually are perfect in this fine large paperback. All scales by key and the scale library by chord conclude this book.
