Doug Kinloch who plays guitar on all 9 cuts and bass on track 5 and 9 was the bandleader of the fusion funk band called Free in E, in the early nineties. He began his career with the German rock group Mass and worked in the eighties with Magazines' Dave Formula.
In addition to Doug, Minor Crisis features a drummer by the name of Greg Leppard. Greg has been a professional drummer for twelve years having made his breakthrough with funk outfit Wise Up. He is currently regarded as one of London's most promising drummers and has recently toured internationally with funk band IZIT while also working alongside Steve Lamb with Diane Carroll.
Rounding out the group on the keyboards is Neil Cowley, (pianist with the Brand New Heavies, Gabrielle, East -West Connection.) and Mike Modesir and Russell Milton splitting time on bass.
All the musicians with the exception of Mike Mondesir were in the jazz funk group "Down to the Bone." The same four are in the resident house/jazz group of the "Barrio at Cargo" (a popular London nightclub) on Friday nights. Mike Mondesir and his brother Mark are fixtures on the UK music scene and are frequently heard in tandem.
While the CD Minor Crisis does not fall directly into a specific genre of music it loosely falls into the definition of Acid Jazz. The nine cuts on the CD define a funky music style which incorporates elements of jazz, funk, soul and a little Latin flavor as well. The music has a definite groove with a mix of high energy while some of the cuts are reflective and soulful. Collectively, Doug and the band create a sound that is refreshing, bright and is easy to listen to.
