2 For 2 by Joe Carter Duo

God, this jazz duo brings me back some 50 yrs, when I first entered into this weird bith-nith we call music, jazz, whatever......I started out fronting groups only as a stand up vocalist. My first group, consisting only of bass & guitar. Canadian jazz guitarist, 'Ollie Gannon' was just cutting his musical teeth. Since then, he has captured his market. I'm convinced Carter (guitar), & Matta, (bass) will do the same. I call your attention to the primrose & reverent take of Jobim's sweet composition. 'Ligia.' Then, the duo changes gears on the next tune, 'Influencia Do Jazz' showing their ability to exploit both the latin & bebop arena equally. The group's restrained & controlled sound seems almost singular & distinctive as the two explore the characteristics of the idiom they both perform so well.......Jazz! Their animated, extroverted, yet, contemplative style is a stirring contrast to some of the bad jazz heard out there in the ether, & is certainly an essential part of their overall performance. Just like the song 'Nice Work If You Can Get It' says: The combined group effort is 'nice work.' So, go out & get it!!
