Contos by Leonardo E. M. Cioglia

Contos is lively, thoughtful, and full of surprises. Its composer, Leonardo E. M. Cioglia, has created some intriguing jazz motifs that will linger in your mind long after the last playing of the CD.

These songs are long in concept and play time as each explores several themes. The performances are eclectic and topnotch.

The total playing time for the collection is at 73:42. There are ten songs on the CD. The songs include "Contos (Do Neco)," "Santa Maria," "Filhos Do Pequi," "Aroma De Mel," "Planalto Central," "Pontos Cardeais," "Olhos D'Agua," "Desfiladeiro De Nuvens," "Lencois De Areia," and "Canca Ao Tempo."

"Filhos Do Pequi" and "Olhos D'Agua" are two works by the composer that are well worthy of jazz radio air play time. Another one is the wonderful "Lencois De Areia" with its intricate jazz themes and eclectic approach.

The piano stylings of Aaron Goldberg are enjoyable listening gems, and his performances are top of the line. Mike Moreno on guitar shines with style and verve as does Leonardo E. M. Cioglia on acoustic bass. Antonio Sanchez shows his unique style on drums. Every performer shares his vision in a memorable blending of sound and innovation.

There is plenty to enjoy in this collection! The jazz listening audience should find this a fine batch of original jazz music with top performances! The sounds of John Ellis will put a jazz smile on your face with his perfect approaches and performances. As always, Stefon Harris is the tops on vibes and has a flawless, fine delivery!
