Unbreakable Heart by Sue Maskaleris

Sue Maskaleris is a powerhouse of a performer, her talents as a jazz vocalist, pianist, violinist, arranger, composer, and recorder performer are readily evident in the Brazilian jazz/contemporary jazz CD release, UNBREAKABLE HEART. Any performer who can master the sounds of the recorder instrument for jazz performances deserves attention and praise. Maskaleris does it all with ease and honest perfection of feeling.

This CD collection sparkles with imagination and sensitivity with its 13 songs. Each song expresses a jazz motif in a flawless setting. Some of the songs will ignite feelings of longing while others will charm with their lively Brazilian tempo, but each is a surprise and highly enjoyable. Selections include "Unbreakable Heart," "Mischief Night," "I Can't Cry Over You Anymore," "Delgado/Soonhos Reciclados," "The Love Within," among others. The solo work in this collection is extraordinary and memorable. Some of the artists performing with Sue Maskaleris include Paul Meyers on guitars, David Sacks on trombone, Gregory Jones on bass, Vanderlei Pereira on drums and percussion, Waltinho Anastacio on percussion, Andrew Lippman on trombone, Darmon Meader on flute and saxophone, Eddie Gomez on bass, Michal Urbaniak on violin, among many others. First rate performances.

Sue Maskaleris is a great talent. Toninho Horta plays guitar and sings on four of the songs in this collection. Michal Urbaniak's violin playing is among the finest in contemporary jazz. Eddie Gomez is a most welcome bass performer with his imaginative stylings, anywhere and anytime!

UNBREAKABLE HEART deserves a lot of airplay time. Excellent collection.
