Metro Blue by Richard Elliot

A new CD by Richard Elliot is always a treat, and his new one, "Metro Blue", is no exception. The first project from his newly formed label, ARTizen Music Group, mixes in heavy doses of R&B, fusion and jazz. Richard has always enjoyed a distinctive voice on the alto sax, and on this new project his voice sounds even more passionate, soulful and seductive than ever before. Most of the ten tracks are rhythmic, grooving chunks of funk with not a weak track among them. Helping Richard out in the producer's chair is co-label owner and trumpet master Rick Braun. The CD boasts guest appearances by Jeff Lorber, Brian Culbertson, Nathaniel Phillips, & Peter White, to name a few. All the tracks are strong, but standouts include "Inside Out", "Coastline", & "Chill Bill". "Metro Blue" makes a perfect jazzy soundtrack for summer BBQ parties and cruising the streets with the top down. The best contemporary jazz CD I have heard this year.
