Players Club by Marion Meadows

Saxophonist Marion Meadows has been one of the freshest sounding players on the contemporary jazz scene, but his name isn’t normally mentioned among the Boney James’ and Kenny G’s of the contemporary jazz world. His new project, Player’s Club, should change all that.

A continuation of 2002’s excellent In Deep, Player’s Club mixes in hip-hop & neo-soul to produce a cutting edge sound not normally found on smooth jazz projects. Guests include guitarists Chieli Minucci and Freddie Fox, and keyboardist/producer Michael Broening. The overall feel of the CD is of a live show and Meadows’ sound is very warm and sensual. The production is tight and the musicianship first rate. Highly recommended!
