True Stories by Andrew Rathbun

TRUE STORIES is unusual in its solo work and performances. This is the latest solo project by Andrew Rathbun. He composes the music, set to the lyrics of novelist Margaret Atwood. The lovely, clear voice of Luciana Souza accompanies some selections. The band is topnotch with the very talented stylings of jazz pianist George Colligan, Taylor Haskins on trumpet, John Herbert on bass, and Jeff Hirshfield on drums. Always in the grove of contemporary jazz blessed with imaginative infusion from straight-ahead& classic, and a touch of avant-garde, this collection will capture any jazz listener's attention.

11 selections, including "True Stories," "Bluejays," "Majority," "She Who Chose," among others. The songs are crisp, alive, sensitive, and performed with a high level of playing performances. Each performer is perfect for this collection.

For those who enjoyed Andrew Rathbun's previous CD collections, you will want to own this one as well. The most imaginative work to date from Andrew Rathbun, and he just keeps on creating memorable jazz!

Andrew Rathbun is a composer with a feel for jazz motifs, and TRUE STORIES is a fine collection. This is a very satisfying jazz CD, something to share with a loved one. Excellent in all ways.
