Sounds of Summer, released by Concord Records, is their Jazz Moods series celebrating the summer its warmth and cheer with a compilation of cool and up-beat numbers from various artists which make for easy listening and pleasure. From the playful You Are My Sunshine by the Gene Harris-Scott Hamilton Quintet to the soothing The Summer Knows by Frank Wess and Frank Foster to the perky rendition and vocals in classic On The Sunny Side of The Street by Ernestine Anderson and George Shearing, you won’t be disappointed. Nice surprises come from versatile Joe Beck on his dreamy Estate and Kenny Barron’s evocative Sunshower, a nine minute piano portraiture of summertime. Overall, there are 11 tracks with 11 different artists which clocks in at just under 59 minutes. If the sweltering heat has got your goat, put this disc on for a spin and bring that smile back.
