Weather Report left it's mark in the jazz/rock-fusion world. The group featured great talented musicians. It emerged from the unique Miles and his Bitches Brew generation with John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul and the late Jaco Pastorius.
This release is a compilation of contemporary-fusion artists and groups playing Weather Report compositions and some new compositions all inspired by this famous legendary group. Because it left an enormous legacy on modern jazz, myriads of musicians wish to pay tribute to Weather Report, but it is still only just a tribute as it is impossible to reach the same level that this group accomplished during the 70's.
Throughout this double CD recording, listeners will be delighted to hear the inspiration of artists from every period of Weather Report, from paying tribute to Pastorius’s music (Marcus Miller, Tribal Tech, Kai Eckhardt, Rocco Zifarelli, Christian Jacob, Terje Gewelt), passing through the rhythms of Joe Zawinul (Tribal Tech, Scott Kinsey), the acoustics (John Mac Lean, Acoustic Mania) and also the sonic textures of the late period (Gary Willys).
Even though the music is still incomparable, virtuosos Miroslav Vitous and Jaco Pastorious are largely well represented. Mysterious Voyages "met la lumière" from famous and talented fusion artists of nowadays like Bill Evans, Bob Malach, Patrice Rushen, Rachel Z, Adam Nussbaum, Paco Sery, Kirk Covington as well as various others whom audiences will certainly delight in hearing more...from now on.
