Having experienced this CD, I feel that this great voice should be heard in a venue other than an opening act. Loretta can certainly stand alone very proudly and this session presents her exciting vocal talents accompanied only by piano and bass. The seventeen compositions on the album run the gamut from Ellington, Vincent Youmans, Matt Dennis, Leon Russell, Michel Legrand and Janis Ian to the classics of Hammerstein, Kern, Harry Warren and Mack Gordon.
Bobby Schiff’s piano and Steve Barclay’s bowed bass add their particular form of magic to Loretta’s very classy vocal stylings. This is a pure jazz performer in every sense of the term. Her range is wonderful and her stage presence is nothing less than stunning.
You may have to do a bit of searching to find this CD but it’s certainly worth the effort.
