Cool Fire (2-CD Set) by Cal Tjader

COOL FIRE is a memorable collection of vibe performances by Cal Tjader. This 2 CD set consists of two collections. The first collection on disc one is A FUEGO VIVO released during 1982 and contains seven songs; among the songs are "Serenata," "Mindanao," "Santo Domingo," "Naima," and "The Continental." The second collection on disc two is GOOD VIBES released in 1984 and contains seven songs; among the songs are "Guachi Guaro (Soul Sauce)," "Shoshana," "Speak Low," "Broadway," "Cuban Fantasy," and "Good Vibes."

These 2 CDs capture the beauty of Cal Tjader's intimate and complex vibe work, showcasing his genius and emphasis on melody. Listening to him perform Ray Bryant's "Cuban Fantasy" reveals why he is considered one of the finest of all vibe players. Another fine work which displays Cal Tjader's mastery of the vibes and the piano stylings of versatile pianist Mark Levine, is the Mark Levine composition titled "Shoshana."

This collection is a must-have for fans of Cal Tjader, and for those who enjoy great jazz vibe performances. Highly recommended.
