Shackrobeat Vol 1 by Aphrodesia

Hailing from San Francesco, this revved up eleven piece unit interweaves African rhythms with funk-rock and the sounds of the tropics. Vocalist Lara Maykovich adds a spicy world beat groove to these pieces, teeming with perky horn charts, and a solid bottom end, laid down by the percussion-heavy rhythm section. And while the band’s jubilant mode of execution provides a party-like atmosphere, the first four tracks suffer a bit from a sense of invariability. But, the momentum changes some on the delightful and endearingly melodic work titled, "Black Rhino," as the band melds a bit of African pop with a dub, motif. Through it all, the musicians’ perpetuate an upbeat deportment via snappy movements, punctual horn arrangements and much more.
