Did You Expect That? by Motorcitysoul

Germany’s DJ Matt, a.k.a. "Motorcitysoul," has concocted an electrified stew, marked by a tasty and to the point fusing of jazzy grooves, Brazilian tinged dance beats and more! Complete with female voices and cool, yet somewhat low-key synth patterns, the artist introduces a Motown vibe into the world of electronica. The DJ’s stylistic approach commences with a lighthearted and generally straightforward vibe during the opening numbers. But he gravitates the proceedings into a heavier EFX style format as the set progresses.

Check out the quaintly rendered synth overlays, often mimicking a catchy pop/soul motif amid quietly oscillating digi-drum patterns. One of the nicer aspects of this affair pertains to the musician’s sympathetic arrangements. In simpler terms, he doesn’t’ overdo it. It’s a feel-good romp consisting of sustainable melodies and ambient dreamscapes evidenced on "Take A Look Around," for example. Anyway, for those who accuse electronics type initiatives as being devoid of emotion or character, this fine outing should dispel such notions, in rather convincing fashion. (Recommended.... )
