Greg Kurstin has written all tracks except No Sleep which was written by Pamelia Kurstin. From track one the ever infectious Everybody Ready, Action Figure Party has you out on the dance floor - GETTING DOWN BABY!!!
When I got this shipment from JazzReview.com this was a C.D. that intrigued me by the look of the cover so I slipped it into my C.D. player and I was jamming all the way through this release. If you are looking for a great C.D. to add to your collection this is it.
Track two is the title of the C.D. and group Action Figure Party and the synthesizer in it jams like no other. I just can't say enough about this group. They are phenomenal.
Blue Thumb Records which had in the past such stable mates as Ike and Tina Turner has really scored big with Action Figure Party and this group will go a long way in this business, you mark my word. So much soul and the sound of the group is what really gets it for them. When you listen to their music you feel as if you are a part of the Action Figure Party.
Track four is a jam called Gamera and has Yogi jamming and kickin' it and chillin' all at the same time. Man, this is great stuff. I wish you were here with me to listen to the Action Figure Party because once you start to listen you can not get enough. Greg Kurstin also has himself very much together and has this group in tip - top shape to perform in its intensity for you.
Track five is entitled No Sleep and sounds just like that. Laid back and on slow mode for the day ahead.
Greg Kurstin also provides vocals for Action Figure Party and he's got a great voice, one that you never tire of. Proof of that can be found on track six and Clock Radio.
Greg Kurstin studied under Jazz enthusiast Jaki Byard and as a matter of a fact sought him out as Greg knew the reputation of Jaki. Studies were done at New School in New York City and Cal Arts. Action Figure Party is out of Los Angeles (my hometown) and has that L.A. feel to it.
Track eight is called George And Cindy and has the entire group in perfect sync of each other and just a bad medium paced groove all the way through.
If you want to see Action Figure Party they are in the following placed over the next week or so:
July 23rd - New York City - Wetlands
July 25th - Pittsburgh - Rosebud
July 28th - Philadelphia - North Star
July 31st - Anapolis - Rams Head Tavern
Track nine Gettem has got a great groove to it along with the synthesizer from Greg that says to you "Come on and dance."
Track ten, Green is a slow melodic kick back piece that you can imagine slow dancing with your guy or gal across the living room floor and the two of you are so much in love with each other.
Track eleven is entitled The Clapper and I would say the jazziest piece of the C.D. of the traditional type. This is a medium fast tune and is definitely something that you can get into and groove as if there's no tomorrow.
For Action Figure Party I know there will be a tomorrow because they are that good. Greg Kurstin - keep on keeping on and welcome to the world of Jazz and more importantly my C.D. Player.
