Amber Ojeda by Amber Ojeda

The San Diego skyline has a new spotlight lit and it’s directed at upcoming, vibrant and soulful siren Amber Ojeda. Not a fan of the hip-hop sound, I have found myself attracted to this jazz/soul feel with the accents of hip hop attitudes melded in. Amber is heavy with a velvet purr, which adds a romantic signature to her sound.

The disk has an intimate appeal as debuts go. Melodies are smooth and rich with that soul beat. "Get to Know Me" is a sample of the rhythmic sparkle she adorns throughout the spin. The effects of sound innovation are well spread out and crisp. The spoken lyrics are few, but impact the temperature of the tone. A great merging of styles in these cuts!

Numerous directions and diversions fill this project; making it deliciously-twisted. This is not, I repeat not, your traditional vocalist. Amber Ojeda has her vocals chords tuned into a new free-standing resonance, for a new generation of jazz and soul audiences. Whether she takes the next level with that Ojeda swagger she has developed.... is up to her. One point is clear... she is ready and so is the future pundits of jazz. Spin this young and surging songstress and experience a liberation from standards.
