The Psychic Horns by The Psychic Horns

If you are a fan of Jazz Funk you'll definitely enjoy The Psychic Horns, brought together by Whaling City Sound. With Dan Moretti on Sax, John Allmark on trumpet and John Wheeler on trombone, the Psychick Horns are a trio of superb musicians with a long history of gigs with major performers.

Dan Moretti, producer and arranger and composer brings a variety of musical experience, from Latin Jazz to straight-ahead Jazz. Having performed with such notable as Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett and The Temptations. John Allmark comes from a big band background. having his own band, the Allmark Jazz Orchestra. John wheeler also has played with Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole and toured throughout Europe and the US.

This CD is a funk filled assortment of arrangements never straying far from their mission of the genre. With an occasional blues sentiment as in the arrangement of "People Make the World Go Round" a tender flugelhorn performance by John Allmark and the languid but not dull "Rudy's Place" give the listener a rest stop from the driving force of the energetic arrangements. The work of the trio is tight. Their feel for each other is evident in the unanimous phrasing, breathing and continuous push forward of the arrangement. All in all, The Psychic Horns is a fun recording that seems to never take itself too seriously and enjoys the dynamism of funk.
