Friday night and all day Saturday artists appear at Big Sur establishments where attendees can enjoy the hospitality of the region as well as the music, places such as Nepenthe, Sierra Mar at Post Ranch Inn, River Inn, Hawthorne Gallery, Henry Miller Memorial Library, Big Sur Bakery and Grill, Big Sur Lodge, Fernwood Resort and Ripplewood Resort. Brad Mehldau Trio and Omar Sosa Septet are both groups that are led by exceptional pianists, their styles as different as night and day. The piano summit will occur as the finale for the day at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park Sunday, preceded by Kitty Margolis Quintet, Eric Person and Meta-Four, and the Scott Amendola Band. The Big Sur Natives host the second stage where they and Bruce Forman and the Jazz Masters will perform. All this takes place between 10:30am and 6pm, tickets are $45 for adults, $15 for youth 13 - 17 years of age, free for those 12 and under accompanied by adults. There is shuttle service to the festival site from Big Sur Lodge off Highway 1.
The Big Sur Arts Initiative is the presenting organization for the festival. Proceeds go to the non-profit organization that develops and presents art and music enrichment programs for the children and adults of the Big Sur community. A catered gala fundraiser for the Big Sur Fire Brigade takes place Friday evening, with entertainment by Omar Sosa Quartet. Tickets are $150.00. Hotel accommodations in the Big Sur area fill up fast.
