Atlanta Jazz Society Honors Jazz Masters

Six-time Grammy nominee and winner Shirley Horn & Jazz Legends assemble in Atlanta,Ga. to benefit Red Cross Relief Fund

The Atlanta International Jazz Society ,along with Earthlink Live and some of the Jazz community's elite artists are donating their time and talent for a worthy cause,to help raise funds for the Red Cross Relief Fund.President and Founder Robert J. Carmack stated, "We are honored to have such legendary artists take part in this historical concert, Some of these guys have not played together or at the same venue in decades." Shirley Horn,Dee Dee Bridgewater and Oscar Peterson were recently awarded the Atlanta based group's very prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, along with proclaimations from three mayors(San Francisco,Oakland& San Jose)and a Congressional Certificate of Appreciation issued by Congresswoman Barbara Lee. Carmack also stated, " We are expecting an excellent turnout for this once in a lifetime show." Though Soul/Jazz vocalist Ray Charles,a native Georgian is the Humanitarian Awardee for 2001,his appearance has not been confirmed due to tour conflicts by press time.

Mr. Charles was just in Atlanta to receive his Honorary Doctorate from Morehouse College and to give a surprise second check for One Million Dollars this year for scholarships and grants for poor and deserving students.
