Berklee Presents Latin Culture Celebration 2009
Boston, October 23, 2009 - Berklee presents its 11th annual Latin Culture Celebration, an event organized by students to showcase music from Cuba, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Venezuela, Panama, and other parts of Latin American. Public events take place throughout the month of November, with concerts and clinics presented by students, faculty, alumni, staff, and guest artists. NEA Jazz Master Dave Brubeck, designated a "Living Legend" by the Library of Congress, will be presented with an Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music at the 52nd Monterey Jazz Festival, held on September 18 - 20, 2009.

The presentation will be made on the Jimmy Lyons Stage in the Arena on Sunday, September 20, at approximately 8:00 p.m., just prior to the Dave Brubeck’s Quartet’s set -- celebrating the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking album Time Out.

Continuing Berklee's commitment of giving back to the birthplace of jazz, the college's Gracenotes Volunteer Committee is sponsoring its third annual trip to New Orleans. This year, the committee awarded sponsorships to four staff members and four faculty members. The group will travel to Louisiana with two Gracenotes administrators June 22 28 to help build the New Orleans Musicians' Village, an ongoing Habitat for Humanity project to create new and affordable homes in the city's Upper Ninth War
Berklee's fifth Kendall Square Concert Series takes place every Thursday throughout the summer-and it's free for lunchtime music lovers. Performers include Berklee students and alumni playing original jazz, Latin, hip-hop, rock, folk, funk, and reggae.
