By Daily Press staff
The Santa Monica College music department will present two-time Grammy award winner Kevin Brandon, who will be playing selections from his new jazz album, "Brandino Live." The concert, which Brandon will play with three other musicians, will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 in the SMC Concert Hall, 1900 Pico Blvd. Tickets are $10. His performance kicks off SMC’s fall Friday night jazz concert series. Brandon, also known as Brandino, has played with dozens of jazz and pop stars, including Aretha Franklin, Outkast, Mary J. Blige, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Stevie Wonder, The Beach Boys, Ray Charles and Justin Timberlake. Originally from Compton, Brandon attended Cerritos and Long Beach City colleges before moving to New York to launch his career. He has had a long and successful career, not only as a performer on the bass and bass guitar, but also as a composer, for which he won two Emmy Awards in 1985-86. His 2004 Grammy awards were for his work on Outkast’s "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below," which won Album of the Year and Best Rap Album. For tickets, call (310) 434-3000 and for information, call (310) 434-4323.
