Stephanie Nakasian has created a remarkable guide to integrating jazz and jazz rhythm into choral and solo repertoire. As a reference text, it is well-written, entertaining, and educational. In addition to the outline and introduction, there are seven detailed chapters with a closing appendix which contains exercises presented in the accompanying CD. Chapter One is titled "Defining Jazz" and Chapter Two is titled "Elements of Jazz Style." The other chapters cover vocal technique ideas, improvising and scat, examples of re-interpreted songs, and summary with conclusion. This is the type of book which will help and guide those seriously interested in learning how to approach vocal jazz.
