For those jazz fans who remember the jazz piano stylings of Peter Nero in the late 1950s and early 1960s, this big band approach to Broadway classics with a symphony orchestra will be entertaining listening. There are 10 selections in the collection.
What is most impressive about this unique collection is Peter Nero's interpretation of the Richard Rodgers Songbook which has a pleasant running time of 17:53 minutes and includes such songbook classics as "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue," "Thou Swell," "The Lady is a Tramp," "My Funny Valentine," "Blue Moon," among others. Also included in the collection is one of Peter Nero's all-time great renditions of "Mountain Greenery" (a song from "The Garrick Gaieties of 1926.")
If you have wondered what became of Peter Nero, he is still very much alive and active in music, composing, arranging, performing, and conducting. Nero won a scholarship to The Julliard School at age 14 and achieved international recognition at age 18 when he performed George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" live on a Paul Whiteman television special. His career has spanned over 35 years and over 60 albums, two Grammy Awards, 10 Grammy nominations, and numerous performances worldwide. ON MY OWN is a showcase for his exciting piano stylings.
