Pianist, Joe LoCascio, has been a favorite in my book since I first heard him with the Elias Haslanger group last year. "Home" is not Joe's first album but it is his first unaccompanied solo piano CD and, in my opinion, a most rewarding effort. The selection of tunes is varied and includes the compositions of Monk, Strayhorn, Julie Styne, Sammy Cahn & Jimmy Van Heusen. A special treat comes in the form of LoCascio's own "Arnett Cobb" and is a touching tribute to a fine musician. Solo recordings are a difficult feat but Joe pulls it off in the tradition of the legends of jazz piano. This is a very classy musician creating a mood in his very own style. Well done!!
