After a number of listening sessions, I'm still confused by this release. It's often difficult enough for an artist to satisfy musical genre purists on their own (i.e. Jazz, Celtic, etc.) I'm not sure if John Rae is trying to reach out to multiple groups here, or maybe none at all. Celtic instruments playing stride, salsa, Scottish traditional tunes, folk melodies and soft jazz is certainly an eclectic mix. Unfortunately the eclecticism doesn't really work here, instead we're left with a taste of this and a mix of that, never really satisfied in the end.
