A remarkably smooth jazz CD with plenty of surprises, featuring Bill Walker on piano, Pat Smith on guitar, Sumit Das on bass, and Russ St. John on Drums, a San Francisco group that puts together a ten selection CD of songs such as Wayne Shorter's "Footrpints," Sumit Das' "Chunky," Brent & Dennis' classic "Angel Eyes," Bill Walker's "Alberta," Pat Smith's "Swing Street," Sumit Das' "Flightless," Bill Evans' "Time Remembered" handled in a mellow, lyrical manner, Pat Smith's "Midnight," Pat Smith's "Mile Lays," and Herbert Hancock's enduring "Watermelon Man." Each musician works intricately with the others to create an enjoyable cd. Bill Walker really knows his piano keys and shares various piano styles with the listener on this cd, and the other members of the Penguin Jazz Quartet are equally good and polished performers. A good CD for play anytime.
