This installment in Candela's Salsa Mundo series features European artists interpreting Afro-Cuban dance music with consistently interesting results. Ranging from the fusion of Carribean and Celtic influences of Salsa Celtica (Salsa bagpipes? Indeed!) to the hot sounds of bands from chilly places like Norway, Sweden and Finland, these 12 tracks establish salsa's status as "world" music with universal appeal.

Some of the acts represented include South American expatriates who have found a place on the bandstands of Europe, and others are purely homegrown in places like France, England and Italy, but all are dedicated to capturing the heart of this music that was born throught the marriage of international influences in the first place. It's only fitting that those international roots of salsa are being extended by excited musians playing excited music around the globe. This is a fine primer for those who wonder who's doing what on the European salsa front.
