Kay Kay Greenwade has her roots in gospel music and is a Texas native along with most of the band members. She was discovered while singing at a funeral by pianist/ guitarist Abner Burnett and was invited to join his group. Abner is a native of Odessa, Texas and had been active on the West Coast for several years opening for Robert Cray, Elvin Bishop and Sam & Dave among others. During 1997-98 he toured the UK and was well appreciated by the British audiences although relatively unknown to American blues fans.
This is a debut CD for Kay Kay and the Rays and they have included a very generous thirteen tracks for your enjoyment. This is contemporary Texas blues done in fine style. Most compositions are by band members.
Ms.Greenwade does a great job on "I Can't Stand The Rain," "Crossfire," "Garden of Eden" and the gospel tinged "There'll Come a Time." Abner takes the vocals on Willie Dixon's "Evil," his own "Mystic Pontchartrain" and "Stealin' Love In The First Degree."
This great little Texas outfit is worthy of your support. The CD is available at Amazon and your local shop.
