Dan Nash’s single, "Into a Fire", is a nice, enjoyable light-rock song. It has heartfelt lyrics, an interesting melody, and strong, competent musicians. Dan Nash himself has a unique tenor voice. His delivery is unique, making use of slides and other devices that make the beginning of the notes and lyrics slightly ambiguous. It takes some getting used to, but altogether is enjoyable. His vocal ability is capable for the limited use he gives it on this tune. But the melodic range is fairly limited and makes little use of dynamics or different tonality. This is not to say the melody is easy, however. With intervallic jumps Mr. Nash handles himself well. Also featured on the song is a sax solo. The musician is more than proficient and does provide much excitement within the confines of this light-rock genre. The rhythm section is the basic guitar/bass/drums. All are proficient and provide support for Nash’s voice and the sax solo.
"Into a Fire" is a pleasurable listen, although it lacks the stimulation most jazz fans appreciate. The chorus of the song contains the lyrics, "Your love has turned my heart from an ember . . . into a fire." Although everything is proficient on this single, it altogether lacks energy. It is the ember, falling short of a fire.
