The Extension by Uli Geissendoerfer

It is good to discover great new talent, and please allow me to introduce you to the jazz sounds of pianist/synthesist/composer, Uli Geissendoerfer in THE EXTENSION. This is a long, enjoyable adventure in contemporary jazz with 8 selections.

The selections include "Wedding Song"(5.26 min.) the innovative "The Extension," "Waiting for Galina," "Mambo Derivado (for Chucho)," "New World," "No Sweet," "Wedding Song" (6.10 min.), and "Nobody Knows." The original music in this collection is enjoyable and unique.

"Waiting for Galina" is a showcase performance selection that reveals the piano style and techniques of Uli Geissendoerfer as does the song titled "New World" (9:30 min.) Uli Geissendoerfer is a versatile, remarkable pianist, and the piano style and innovative techniques are memorable.

Uli's CD is also a tribute to the great Latin pianists such as Eliane Elias, Jorge Dalton, Michel Camilo, and Chucho Valdes. A blending of contemporary jazz with Latin touches in a variety of musical settings, THE EXTENSION is sure to please jazz listeners everywhere. Uli studied in Cuba with Chucho Valdes and also with Harold Danko in the United States. He appeared with Mark Peterson on BLUE ROOM, a CD released in 1999, and with Arne Kopfermann on TRAVELS, a CD released in 1999. THE EXTENSION is his first outing as a solo artist, and it is a memorable debut.

For a look at how good this young pianist is, listen to his rendition of the old spiritual classic, "Nobody Knows," and listen to him work that piano keyboard in a highly creative way. Uli reveals his gift for playing the blues, and performs one of the finest versions of "Nobody Knows" to come along in a long time.

Guest musicians are: Mark Walker on drums, Mario Rodriques on acoustic & electric bass, Bobby Francescini on tenor and soprano saxophones, William Cepeda! on trombone, barilles, and shaker. Raul Romero on acoustic & electric guitar. E. J. Allen on trumpet, one of the finest trumpeters around. Luis Bonilla on trombone for track 2. Chembo Corniel on congas on tracks 1 and 4. These musicians are topnotch performers.

THE EXTENSION is a winner. Uli Geissendoerfer is a flawless pianist, blessed with a great style and the ability to share jazz music moods with audiences.

THE EXTENSION is one nice CD you will want to share with a friend or give as a gift. Excellent CD.
