In This World by Charles Pillow

With the new CD release, IN THIS WORLD featuring Charles Pillow on English horn, oboe, saxophone, bass clarinet, the jazz listener is in for some great world music sounds coupled with contemporary jazz motifs. Pete McCann joins in on guitar with Chuck Bergeron on bass and Mark Walker on hand drums in the opening "Cor Anglais," setting the magical tone for the remainder of the collection.

There are 11 selections in the collection. Songs include "Cor Anglais," "Charlotte," "In Nomine/De Profundis," "Folk Song," "Quiet Village," "Soundtrack to Fiction," "Aria," "While," "Fraction," "Ramayana," and "Reaching."

Each song is unique, and the performances are outstanding. Mike Holober on organ or keyboards is a wizard with jazz sounds, each note remarkably memorable and meaningful. Take a listen to the song "Ramayana," which features Holober on piano along with Pillow on oboe and bass clarinet, Ben Monder on guitar, Matt Wilson on drums, and Chuck Bergeron on bass for an indepth analysis of how good these musicians are at performing and harmony. "Ramayana" is an ideal piece for radio airplay, running 4:03 minutes and showcases the sounds of the group.

IN THIS WORLD is a unique collection of unique sounds. Each musician is in top form and each song is a gem. Five Stars.
