Randy Villars /Every Moment is delivers a consistent level of smooth jazz groove. Quite simply, It's lovely! Produced by Ken Navarro. the professional quality stands out. There isn't one "side B "cut in the bunch. You might think from a first listen, that this would be good music to relax you into sleep, but expect a wake up call on every cut. The tunes tend to lullaby you in and then turn up the heat. Each one has the right balance of mellow flow and percussive funk.
The first cut Dream Street is just that, mellow and dreamy, like looking up at clouds floating across a gorgeous azure blue sky. Villars' full-bodied sax is reminiscent of Gerald Albright's sound.
The second song, Rendezvous continues the soulful smoothness, and punctuates it with a stronger beat. A well- knit melody hooks you in, so you're waiting for it again and again through out the song. The third cut Open Road, begins with a piano and sax intro, which is at once seductive and intriguing. It tells you about the adventure and yet the sameness of the open road.
The title cut Every Moment is a dreamy, introspective oasis of sound. The sax melody floats out to enchant you and lure you to a secret place in your own heart.
The fifth cut, Daybreak has a driving syncopated beat, with a strong sax melody. This is an uplifting, feel good song with a little jam thrown in as a bonus.
The eighth track, As You Were is Elegant, the sax sounds sophisticated and lonely, like a well-dressed woman at a bar.
The remaining cuts are by turns seductive, sentimental and tender, The saxophone glides through in soulful undulation, evoking moods at will. Villars certainly has mastery over his instrument and the feelings it creates.
The final cut is the 70's classic The World is a Ghetto; Villars has fun with his smooth flowing rendition of an old favorite. But this is not "Muzak", just as you start to relax; he hits you with the funk. Every Moment is the follow up to Villars debut Album, "Awakening". All I have to say is if what he's accomplished so far is any indication; I'm looking forward to hearing from Randy Villars for years to come.
