Mississippi Magic by Terry Evans

Terry Evans appears here on his 5th solo CD. The Delta bluesman is steeped in the blues and gospel traditions of his native Mississippi. Speaking of this new recording, Evans explains "It's got a touch of blues, a touch of soul and a touch of gospel. I'm from Mississippi and grew up in the church. Gospel lends itself to soul, soul lends itself to blues. It's all related and it's what I'm all about."

Certainly all these elements are present in "Mississippi Magic" and one might also notice a healthy portion of good old R & B. Evans wrote "Hop, Skip and Jump" which was recorded by the late Louis Jordan. Terry performed in the film "Crossroads" where he sang lead vocal on the title piece and "Down In Mississippi." To his further credits are vocal support for such stars as Ry Cooder, John Lee Hooker, Marvin Gaye and Boz Scaggs.

Accompanied by a fine group of musicians and vocalists, Terry Evans really kicks butt with his interpretation of Willie Dixon's classic "Mellow Down Easy." The CD is liberally laced with the performer's originals including "Let Love Begin" and "You Better Get Your Shit Together." All things considered, this is great example of modern day Delta sounds by a fine vocalist and top notch musicians. Guaranteed to keep your feet tapping.
