Rooted: Origins of Now by The Miyumi Project Big Band

ROOTED: ORIGINS OF NOW is world music with a distinct infusion of contemporary jazz including Yoko Noge singing the Japanese folk tune "Jongara Buchi" and other jazz motifs. At times, it has an almost shamanic beat with its background.

There are 5 long and enjoyable selections. "Now" (12:54 minutes), "Origin" (14:04 minutes), "Hua Ha Ha -- Chinese Tradition," "1.5 Generation," "...of Now, as Well," and "Origin." Each selection brings with it its own personal jazz expression in a world context, and each selection is highly creative in scope.

Every musician involved in the performances is first rate and innovative. For something fresh, imaginative, and at times wonderfully surreal in perspective, give this CD collection a try. Tatsu Aoki's musical visions are fully realized in a complex and entertaining manner with his ROOTED: ORIGINS OF NOW.
