The Marc Copland Trio takes a new approach to traditional ballads on their CD Haunted Heart and Other Ballads. It's a relaxing CD that combines the old and new harmoniously. My favorite track was their classy rendition of John Coltrane's Crescent. It has a sophisticated sound that reminds me of eating at a live restaurant with live jazz. Drew Gless does a terrific job on the bass. Another favorite is When We Dance, which is a Sting composition. The title cut Haunted Heart is anything but haunted. It's beautiful and romantic. My least favorites were Dark Territory, Greensleeves and It Ain't Necessarily So. I didn't like them because they weren't vivid and the tempos were just too slow for me. But overall I enjoyed this CD and I give it a rating of two beignets.
