For his seventh release in ten years, saxophonist Warren Hill has brought an extremely personal release. Not only does Hill give his take on some classic love songs, he features a song that is a tribute to the people of New York City after the events of September 11th. The song September Morning has the special feeling that Hill tries to show throughout Love Songs.

He tries to show that even though the saxophone is a powerful instrument, it can also bring out tender emotions as well. Hill does that through his take on such classic songs as My Funny Valentine, At Last, Eric Clapton's Wonderful Tonight, the smooth jazz classic Fallen, Joe Cocker's You Are So Beautiful and the Beatles classic My Love.

He gets help from guest guitarists Marc Antoine and Jeff Golub, who Hill is touring with in the latest incarnation of Guitars and Saxes with Richard Elliot. Hill wisely uses the strengths of both special guests in special ways. In Wonderful Tonight, Hill uses Golub to bring a more soulful guitar feeling to the song while still bringing out his qualities as well. Antoine is used in the original Dancing With You to bring out a European feeling to the song.

Warren Hill has brought about a very good mix of songs that touch the heart. His performance throughout shows his maturity as he brings out his many sides as a player. Love Songs is a break out CD for Hill and will establish him as one of the most versatile sax players around. Hill has a winner here both musically and emotionally.
