Guitarist Craig Chaquico has again brought his mixture of smooth jazz in a great package called Shadow and Light. He teams up with keyboardist Ozzie Ahlers to provide ten tracks that mixes his rock influence from Starship with smooth jazz sensitivity. There is not a single track that is weak in Shadow and Light and Chaquico makes this release his best to date doing what he does best, expanding the warmth and fire of the acoustic guitar. Chaquico has always been known by the company he keeps with him on his releases. In Shadow and Light, he brings in saxophonists Warren Hill and Jeff Kashiwa to help on the track Compared to What. Chaquico also has a remix of his Cafe Carnival which adds a sax to the mix to bring a different dimension to the song. Cafe Carnival was originally released as a new track to Chaquico's best of compilation called Panorama - The Best of Craig Chaquico back in 2000. It was the first time that Chaquico used both acoustic and electric guitar as a smooth jazz artist. In Shadow and Light, he uses both guitars in four tracks on the CD. In all four tracks, the mixture of the guitars makes the difference in the feeling of each song. Shadow and Light is Craig Chaquico's best release yet for Higher Octave. It is his seventh for the label and shows how musically matured Chaquico has become. He continues to amaze me and will keep on amazing his audiences as he goes on tour to promote this release. It is a must buy!
