The Shadow of the Cat by Gato Barbieri

Without doubt, THE SHADOW OF THE CAT, is one of the finest CD collections to date from saxophonist Gato Barbieri. His sound is wonderfully intimate and intricate on each song, and he is backed by various guest artists that each add a fine touch of grace to the songs. Herb Alpert plays trumpet, and is among those guest artists, including Cassandra Reed on vocals and Sheila E on percussion.

There are 12 selections in the collection. The unity and imaginativeness of THE SHADOW OF THE CAT makes it one of the outstanding CD collections of the year 2002. Songs include "The Shadow of the Cat," Jason Miles' "Tierra Del Fuego (Land of Fire)," "Beautiful Walk" written by Gato Barbieri, the hauntingly beautiful "Blue Habanera" written by Gato Barbieri, among others. Each song will appeal to the listening audience for different reasons.

Cassandra Reed is always a pleasure to listen to, her voice so perfectly suited to the music she sings. Those who enjoy the vocals of singer Cassandra Reed will enjoy her "Si Tu Me Quisieras," which features her voice, Barbieri on tenor saxophone, Jason Miles on keyboards, Dal Lowe on acoustic guitar, Sheila E on percussion, among other guest artists.

THE SHADOW OF THE CAT is a beautiful listening experience, one that will give the listening audience and fans of jazz saxophonist Gato Barbieri some very fine, memorable listening moments. This is a CD collection not to be missed.

THE SHADOW OF THE CAT is a unique collection. Highly recommended.
