After a highly successful premier Native Language release back in 2000 of Another Door Opens, former Rippingtons saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa has come back even stronger with Simple Truth. This time, he took his backing musicians to a studio in Germany to record the CD and it shows the focus that Kashiwa has put in Simple Truth. Guitarist Chuck Loeb produced the new release and his expertise has helped Kashiwa to show the many sides of his soulful sax work.From the breakout smooth jazz hit Three Day Weekend to sensitive tracks like A Quiet Goodbye, Simple Truth shows Kashiwa's versatility and emotional playing. On this release, Kashiwa has brought along two former Rippingtons, percussionist Steve Reid and keyboardist Dave Kochanski. They help to bring out Kashiwa's own feeling in the selections. His selection of backup musicians, including a special horn section that on two tracks helps to bring a Steely Dan feeling, helped to bring out Kashiwa's vision of being honest and outright with his music.Jeff Kashiwa has come a long way from his years with the Rippingtons and backing up other musicians like Acoustic Alchemy and John Tesh. He came into his own with Another Door Opens and has broken out in Simple Truth as smooth jazz's next superstar. Watch out!
