Spanning a period of 16 years (1969-1985), "Blues Around The Clock" is a jazz influenced blues timepiece from the vaults of Pablo Records, the brainchild of Norman Granz. I believe, as do many folks, that jazz and blues are closely related relatives. This compilation CD is a fine example of how that formula works. Blues and jazz legends join together to create what any jazz or blues lover would absolutely find irresistible.... great music for the ages to listen to for the rest of their days.
Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker, Count Basie,Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Brown, Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, the list goes on of this virtual blues and jazz encyclopedia that populate these tracks.
It comes as no great surprise that some of the best blues comes served up by Muddy Waters. His contemporaries could hold their own, but he was the man when he was on top of his game. With three tracks from each artist respectively, it is just the right amount of music to make a lasting impression upon any listener. It did the trick for me. This is a rock solid collection from some of the very best to ever perform this variety of music. All of these men are legendary performers, and to hear them all together on one disc is absolutely gripping. If you do not have this CD you need to add it to your collection pronto, if you already have it, then you are one smart collector of jazz and blues.
