Luminescence by Tino Derado

Tino Derado has assembled a multi-national ensemble for his third release on his own Perun Records. The music is a refreshing change of pace from so much of what is released today. The feeling is relaxed, like sitting at an outdoor cafe on a warm summer’s day. Yemen is a slow paced ballad featuring Derado’s accordion. The song is lyrical and reminiscent of the great Astor Pizzolla. Although Denado is German/Croation, there is an unmistakable South American air to the music. With it’s gentle acoustic guitar, Unbearable Distance has that same quality as many of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s compositions. Indifferent To Luxury speed things up, yet keeps it light.

The rest of the CD follows suit. Repeated listenings reveal a great sense of lyricism and beauty. And above all, there is the passionate playing of Derado. He brings out both sensitivity and beauty from his accordion. Highly recommended for those who love Pizzolla and Jobim, as well as acoustic Latin Jazz.
