Now this is the blues! That is right; Telarc knows what it takes to make true to form blues music. With a roster including people like Jimmy Thackery, Ronnie Earl, Luther "Guitar" Johnson, Tab Benoit, and James Cotton, how could you not make a great compilation of songs? "Now This Is What We Call The Blues-Vol. 420" is everything I would expect for a best of the best album from this fine label. I heard all the albums that these songs came from throughout 2002 and it served as a good reminder of just how wonderful all that music was. It is rare that I do not give product from the vaults of Telarc a five star write up, and this CD is no exception.
The most appealing aspect of this assemblage is that it offers a wide array of artists and styles, not to the extent of crossover, just an eclectic group of styles within the blues genre. There is no room for similitude or boredom while listening to this music. As advertised on the cover of this CD there are 13 songs that never went near a chart, but who cares? It does not have to chart to be great music. When you hear Tinsley Ellis bust out "Hell Or Highwater" you will know that you have made the right decision picking up this CD. I have no doubt at all, that these songs will inspire you to seek out the full-length albums by this fine stable of artists. So what are you waiting for? Get it NOW and found out what I am raving about.
