Every once in a while, you come across a disc that just leaves you breathless. The mood is eccentric, but pulls you in. A disc that you actually find yourself saying that you got your
full money's worth, and probably should have paid more. I'm sure many of us have had those wonderful, intense experiences, that leave us taking a deep breath and feeling glad that we're alive. Well...if you're looking for that kind of musical gratification, don't bother with this disc.
Then, of course, I
always try to play the "devil's advocate." If you are a club or bar owner, and you've just finished playing your CDs of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, or Jimmy Buffett, then this is a very
fitting type of disc for your establishment.
This disc is filled to the brim with Latin-flavored tracks with techno tendencies. It is not the type of music that most listeners would even consider as "jazz." This music is intended for party/club/bar use, so if you are up for that, check out
Vintage Chill - Volume 2.
Seriously, if you really dig Latin-techno music and you have a lot of parties, you'll probably enjoy this disc much more than the typical jazz seeker would. This disc is totally designed as background music. The music on this isn't meant to be a classic jazz album, nor music to be studied. It's "feel good" music for goodtimes after the hard work week.
Last Note: There's just one thing that I cannot shake about this album. As aforementioned, I totally and wholeheartedly agree that this music is intended for the party/bar/club scene, and that's perfectly ok. The thing that I don't understand is the cover of the disc. Right on the front of the disc is a bright orange sticker that reads: "Music for Wine Lovers." Now, I enjoy a glistening glass of mesmerizing merlot just as much as the next cat. Although, when I think of "Music for Wine Lovers," that list of artists would include Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Lester Young, or Billie Holiday. On the other hand, if you enjoy Boone's Farm, Wild Irish Rose, Thunderbird, or Arbor Mist, stop by the CD shop and pick up
