Though sax player Rod Tate hails from St Louis, his new CD, A Musical Portrait, sounds like he’s been influenced by Eastern players like Grover Washington, Jr. Tate plays all the instruments on this CD, with the exception of his daughter Ashley playing flute on Daddy & His Princess. The twelve tracks that make up this CD include covers of Stevie Wonder’s Rocket Love & Maxwell’s Til the Cops Come Knocking. Tate has a smooth, nice tone and his sax playing makes him someone to keep an eye on.
