The Strike Boys’
(Tommy Yamaha and Martin Kaisa) website simply shows a pre-New Years Day type counter, presumably indicating the time remaining till this release is due to hit the bins. As of this writing, the timestamp indicates: 23 days, 4 hours, 5 minutes and 10 seconds. It’s worth the wait though, as the trance-groove, subculture thing gravitates to a futuristic pop shtick, awash with pumping backbeats, melodic synth overlays, and simple melodies.
The musicians’ carefully arranged textures are melded with a hodgepodge of up-tempo rock-funk and dub grooves, featuring female soul-pop-rap vocalists and more. They also delve into spacey hip-hop motifs. To that end, the ensemble apparently strives to take pop to a higher level. At times sensual, persuasive, and irrefutably hi-tech, the artists do indeed capture a mood. And what that mood indicates is simply up to the listener’s discrimination. They also fuse jazzy horn charts, thumping bass patterns and multihued EFX swashes throughout the predominance of this rather enjoyable production.
