According to their press release, this is a "virtuoso groove-improv studio band... a breath of fresh air for all jazz-funk aficionados." The opening song, "The Greens" gets your head bobbing and your feet taping on this wonderfully surprising CD. It's funk driven but only enough to get you hooked and wanting more. The sax solo is crisp, inviting and takes you to another level. The organ, not sure it's a B-3 or not, adds that little "kick." "Brick it Up" is a fast number that wakes you up and is heavy on the guitar and bass solos think Weather Report. Other enjoyable cuts include the slow, seductive "Like This," or the "Boat Song," with its rolling waves in the beginning. The group also does a real funky version of Duke Ellington's "C Jam Blues." Funk, fusion and a good time are alive and "Square with the Universe."
