Dave, who comes from Canada, in his early years was inspired by standard rock artists such as Jimi Hendrix, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin and The Police to name a few. Later on more eclectic artists like Pat Methany, Jeff Beck, Peter Frampton and Eric Johnson were part of the mix. Dave taught himself guitar but then studied music theory and composition at Grant MacEwan Community College.
It's hard to classify this CD as any one thing. Although electronica runs heavy throughout, you still feel the jazz, rock, world and funk all nicely mixed in to make this one cohesive listening experience. The first track, "Love Journey," sounds reminiscent of new age music but with that perfect "kick" of rock thrown into the mix. On "April Rain," the acoustic and electric guitar blend beautifully together for true listening pleasure! "Mexican Sonata" takes you across the border with its Spanish influence, and then in comes the electric guitar and drums pumping it up a notch with a little rock. "ATC Dance" is a funky little number that will make you want to get up and dance with its hip drum and guitar riffs. On "Little Bridges," both the guitar and flute are very soothing and peaceful, just beautiful, but it ends too soon for me. The last track, "Spiral G" sounds just like that, the music seems to spiral around you with lots of electronica, as is evident throughout this CD. This makes a nice ending, along with the rest of the tracks, to a CD that should have a little something for everyone.
Each track offers the listener a different experience, a little jazz here, a bit of rock there, along with some new age, world, electronica and lots of great guitar work all blended very nicely into one easy to listen to CD. All in all this is a well done, innovative and fun CD sure to delight the senses.
