It is such a real shame that this creation took Literally (yes with a big L) ages to get into my hands, but.... it’s worth the time that I’ve waited! Singer Karen Blixt has released a bountiful CD with her own compositions and also some jazz standards.
Karen Blixt made her musical career in her own way and now she is donned in the Californian scene. A native New Yorker who grew up with church music, she found her voice after leaving NYC and meeting many talented people along the way. A woman with a strong willpower: there are a few... and when I find one I take my hat off!. This Lady (yes, big L!) has accomplished an impressive path and she has done very, very well! Looking closely at her comrades: Alex Acuña, Russell Ferrante, Buddy Montgomery, Paul McCandless, Will Kennedy and Joe Hebert, we can see why...
So.... let’s talk a bit about her work of art. "My Favorite Things" is my favorite one. Her raucous voice pulls something from me.... I do not know what and I do not know from where. Then... you just get back from that "travel" and Blixt leads you on the way to « You Don’t Know Me » What do ya do?... just listen to her voice and tell yourself, « she does this well, oh yes she does! »....
Jump to track nine "When You're Smiling", and there you get captivated, as if you’ve not been already. De Francesco burns like hell. This is really cool stuff. Not to mention Martin on the piano.
Somehow, I don’t want to pass comments on every song because I myself am dying to be in the California bay-area and to catch Blixt somewhere over there just for the pleasure of my own ears (yes, call me egoistic !). Still...come with me and tell her that we wonder if she "hasn’t been half wild enough".... Oh gosh.... she was; oh gosh.... she is!
